Alex Moiss (Moiss Music) Interview
Alex Moiss sprang onto my radar when promo’s from Moiss Music started catching my attention. Turns out he’s a busy man, Co-owning Mole Music and Lisztomania Records too. His brief biography on Facebook gives little away beyond him being a DJ/Sound Producer from Russia, Time 2 House radio show resident and Lisztomania Radio show host alongside Igor Gonya. From seemingly nowhere he’s taken my shows by storm, a must listen too promo when it lands, gaining huge support on retailers so I was keen to catch up with him and find out more.
Thanks for doing this Alex. Give us your story - how you got into this, the label, the success…?
Firstly, I wanna say thanks for having me for this interview, and really appreciate your constant support. Feel the love from New Zealand. I met with Igor Gonya and we started to work about our Lisztomania Records label. Then He gave me advice about launching my own label and offered to help with all things at the beginning. This is how we started. Success is an abstract word to me. I feel that the Moiss Music has a lot of listeners / fans and I love what we do. Maybe this is a real success.
How do you describe Moiss Music to people - what’s the label about?
I can say that Moiss Music is an absolutely my preferences. This is how I feel the music, how I feel the vibes. And I do my best for keeping the level.
The success has been amazing - what’s the secret of the impact?
I love house music and I’ve listening to house music since 90’’. This is impact!
Many of the artists you have are totally new to many of us - where do they come from, how do you find such talent?
Haha. Diggin’ bro! Everyday we listening a lot of material on Soundcloud, Youtube. And demo works as well.
Greatest influences? DJ’s, people, labels…?
I really love how KiNK plays. He is amazing. Each his session like a story. About people / artists I can say that we all without any doubts got a billion emotions from UK electronic scene and I’m talking about Prodigy, Fat Boy Slim, Chemical Brothers. About labels - 100% - Large Music, Salted Music, Toy Tonics, No Fuss Records, Tropical Disco Records and Robsoul. Also I really love what you do. UM is a label with a good discography and I wish you good luck with all things. Just do what you do.
Favourite place to DJ?
I really love Salt (Kazan) and Powerhouse (Moscow). Really wanna play in Union Bar, Mishka Bar and Kuznya in Saint Petersburg.
What’s your usual preparation for a set? Picks tracks, sleep…?
Hard selection. I prefer to build my set as an story. When you feel the good feedback then you can say the quest is done hehe.
Top tip/s for up and coming DJ’s?
Feel the crowd. Feel their vibe / mood and try to keep more people on a dance floor as you can. The best development is next. People from the street hear your music and go to the club for a dancing!
What’s your average day like running the labels and DJ’ing?
I have a main job and few months ago I was married and I can say that I work with a labels something about 4-5 hours in a day. But for sure I’m always in touch with artists / promoters / partners. Then I can say nominally it’s 24/7 hehe.
Top tips for aspiring producers?
I want to quote Pushkin: «The experience born of lapses and genius antinomy-wise»
What other labels are killing it for you right now - tracks you’re playing and loving?
Lisztomania Records, Sundries, Mood Funk Records, Moulton Music, PIV Records, Lazy Days Recordings, Freerange
Any DJ’s you’ve seen and think we should check out?
My bro - Igor Gonya, Denis Kazakov, Paul & Panchez, Scruscru, Iner, Billion (Fresh blood)
