Four Tet

Last Night a DJ Saved My Life

Four Tet is the electronic music outlet for the solo work of Kieran Hebden, the UK based Putney born musician. His debut single was the 36-minute ‘Thirtysixtwentyfive’ on Trevor Jackson's Output Recordings label in 1998) and since then his discography has been consistently brilliant and diverse. ’Dialogue’ his first full-length album, fused hip-hop drum with jazz samples.

In 2001, Four Tet's second album ‘Pause’ was released on Domino and found Hebden using more folk and electronic samples, which was quickly dubbed “folktronica’ - proving the point on diversity. His tracks have been used by Nike for advertising at least twice too - showing the range of appeal his music has.

Hebden has also remixed artists including Aphex Twin, Bloc Party, Super Furry Animals, Beth Orton, Badly Drawn Boy, Lana Del Rey, Manic Street Preachers and Radiohead. That Fourtet remix of Radiohead was supported with him opening for them on their European tour in 2003 and the first introduction I had to his music. That said one of my personal favourites is his remix of The XX’s tracks alongside his remix of ‘Opal’ for Bicep and he’s worked with the likes of Maya Jane Coles, Ripperton, Detroit Swindle and more.
