Redemial Sounds

Label Interview

Redemial Sounds is a new label that investing in talented artists. They believe in creating a collaborative and innovative environment where artists can thrive and reach their potential. The label is run by Buddynice (DJ, Producer, Mastering Engineer, Promoter) and Tebu.Sonic (DJ, Producer).

How did the label come to be - what’s the story of how why you created it?

Back in 2019 Buddynice created the label wanting to be independent just after leaving The Godfathers of Deep House SA. His aim was also to focus on his own brand, in terms of growth and engaging more with his fans. Along the way Buddynice teamed up with Tebu.Sonic and they both created something really powerful and unique. The world is still going to know. #TheWorldIsWatching.

What were the biggest challenges you had to get to release one?

Information. Many artists out there lack information. Starting a record label requires information such as information about different distributors, information about how to create and manage contracts. This type of information is not found easily. This was our biggest challenge when starting the label.

What was the best piece of advice anyone gave you along the way?

Never give up. The only way for you to be heard is to be unique, do your own thing and don’t compare yourself to other artists because they are running their own race.

What makes the label unique?

A lot of record labels are not into South African Deep Tech & a lot of producers in South Africa are into deep tech, so we scout for those talented artists and introduce them to the world the best way we can

What’s your musical policy - what do you look for?

We looking for artist that are unique, that have their own unique sound.

What producers have you had on the label that sum up the style you want best?

All our producers are unique from each other. Everyone is amazing. LeJazz, Lucid Deep, Gary Cooper, KingTouch , Benediction , Mega Bt , Pushguy, TorQue MuziQ , Doctor Blaque & Epic Soulstar. These guys work very hard & their music sums up our best, people will have to look out for them..

How do you go through demos, how do you like people to send them, what’s your process?

All our demos are sent to our email redemialsounds@gmail.com

We listen to everything and give artists feedback and recommendations.

How long do you plan between signing a track and release?

We plan a month before so that everything is in good shape. From the mastering of the track to the artwork.

How do you go about creating the artwork?

We have our own personal graphic designer, who does unique designs for the label.

Do you work with artists to help them develop their brand/audience?

Yes we do. We make sure our artist get the best exposure we can give them. We are currently working with an online Radio based in New York where our artist provide 1 Hour mixes. This is a good way to help them get exposure internationally too.

What’s been the most successful release to date and your personal favourite?

Our most successful release has to be Deep Inside Your Soul EP by Gary Cooper. It's what we've always been wanting to have on our catalogue.

What do you do around a release - promotion etc?

We make sure the release gets posted all over social media.

Do you have merchandise?

We don't have any merchandise at the moment but we are thinking of starting soon, as COVID-19 gives us a break.

What’s the hardest thing you find with releases?

The hardest thing we find with releases is the music we put out getting pirated. It becomes hard to sale when the music is already out for free on a lot of Pirating sites

How often do you have a release?

Once we get a good EP we release it immediately. Once we get good music sent to us we can release something every 2 weeks.

Do you use a promo list and what do you get out of it?

Yes we do have a promo list. It helps us hype our releases before they are released

Can people apply to get on the list?

Yes but we mostly send promos to selected individuals. Actually it depends on our releases, if we are about to drop afro tech vibes, we send to DJs & channels that deal with that genre. If it's deep house, we send to our selected DJs, producers & promoters

Do you use a PR company or the services for that a distributor sometimes offers?

We haven't used any yet, the label is still new. We will see when time goes by.

How important to the release is airplay, DJ support, artist self-promotion?

Airplay,DJ support & self-promotion are very important, they help with sales & exposure

How much work do you put into social media promotion or paid advertising on social media?

We put in a lot of work because we believe social media plays a big role in the music industry. Without it many big artist wouldn’t be known

What releases have you got lined up for the year ahead?

We have Mega Bt - Bed Side EP as our 1st release for the year and more music from De'KeaY, Tebu.Sonic and others we haven't confirmed yet, as we are still going through our demos.

What do you think the big issues ahead are?

Dealing with music piracy.

Where can people follow the label?
