Slip N Slide | Label Profile

Slip N Slide was one of those labels that educated me to proper house music. The label introduced me to names like Blaze, De'Lacy, Kings Of Tomorrow, X-Press 2, Deep Dish and more. I still have many of those 12”s today (might even need to do an old school mix of them). Sadly like many other labels of the era Slip N Slide faded away, but in 2017 the catalogue was acquired by Defected Records and is making something of a quiet comeback.

West London’s Slip N Slide was created in the early 90s putting out the best of the new wave of US House music on par with Strictly Rhythm, Henry Street and Nervous Records, it quickly gained a reputation for taking chances on new producers, releasing with the likes of  X-Press 2, Deep Dish, Masters At Work, Kings Of Tomorrow, King Britt, Josh Wink, Peace Division, Joey Negro and of course the mighty Blaze. Kevin Hedge and Josh Milan were responsible for much of Slip 'n' Slide's output in some capacity, either as a duo in Blaze or producing, writing and remixing with other artists under various aliases.

Founded by Kickin Music's Peter Harris the label’s biggest moment was with De'Lacy's "Hideaway" which was remixed to devastating effect by Washington's Deep Dish and sold over a million copies worldwide, charting in over 30 countries. Personally the Blaze tracks were my picks, but I did play that Deep Dish Remix of De’Lacy to death!

Slip N Slide has also played a major role in pushing the sound of jazz onto both dance floors and charts through their association with producers such as Phil Asher and Charles Dockins and the highly-rated "Jazz In The House" compilations.

Following the purchase by Defected tracks became available on digital stores and a new era of producer was added to the discography, with the likes of  Hipp-E, Mr.V, Milton Jackson, Shur-i-kan, Demarkus Lewis, Kruse & Nurnberg, Q-Burns Abstract Message and more with the intent (from what I’ve read) to keep the music coming.
