Demah - Falling Forward
(inc Col Lawton Remix)

UMR111 - UM Records

Released: 22 November 2021

This EP is dedicated to my beautiful boy and all who are learning how to live life again in the aftermath of addiction. You are not alone. Whether you are moving forward or "falling forward", as long as there is forward motion, the journey continues and where words fail, music speaks.

Demah’s debut on UM Records is something of a departure from her techno staples but Falling Forward is an EP is an ode to the pain of watching a loved one struggle with addiction and the pride of seeing them fight to move forward.

The title track “Falling Forward” uses haunting, ethereal vocals to significant effect, as darker bass notes and percussion lend weight and lightness. Remixer Col Lawton adds a hopeful bassline and pumps up the percussion to turn it into a sunrise groover. On “Echoes of the Past,” a somber piano roots the song while lilting pads and touches of countermelody give it a constant sense of push/pull.

As Demah herself describes, even when we are “falling forward, as long as there is forward motion, the journey continues.” This set of bittersweet yet hopeful songs lets us take that journey with her.
