Deep House Destinations

Pretoria, also known as Tshwane, is one of South Africa’s three capital cities, serving as the seat of the administrative branch of government, and as the host to all foreign embassies to South Africa. Pretoria has a strong house music community and has been called the Deep House Capital of South Africa - but I’m sure both Johannesburg and Cape Town would disagree! The city is also credited as the place Amapiano began from its Kwaito roots.

In recent years new movements continue to develop in Pretoria, with Nostalgic House the most recent coming out of The Godfathers of Deep House SA and their crew of DJs.

Pretoria Record Labels

I’ll be honest, there’s not many to be found on the internet - so I’m hoping I’ll get some intel from some of my contacts on this one. Beyond Ralf GUM’s highly respected the machine that is The Godfathers of Deep House SA and their label I’ve not found much. I’m assuming Piano Hub - the label of Kabza De Small is based in Pretoria too.

Pretoria DJ's & Producers

Given the popularity of Amapiano here in Pretoria there’s a strong influence of Amapiano in the listing - the biggest names in the scene Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa come from here. Global name Jullian Gomes is a Pretoria success story too and needs no introduction in house circles around the world. Producers such as Thorne Miller, Buddynice, Kat La Kat and more make Pretoria a hot bed of talent.
